The Piscataquog Land Conservancy held its 50th Annual Meeting as an online event on October 24th. PLC members learned about the organization’s accomplishments over the past year, which included the protection of three new properties totaling 740 acres, the successful merger with the Bedford Land Trust, and numerous projects that made our lands more welcoming to the public. The meeting was rounded out with a special video celebrating PLC’s fifty years of protecting land and water in southern New Hampshire. On May 11, 1970 the Piscataquog Watershed Association (which later became PLC) came into legal existence by filing its articles of agreement with the NH Secretary of State’s office in Concord. Many long-time members still remember when the organization was known as the PWA., but not all remember how the organization got started back in 1970, when a dedicated group of people came together to protect a ribbon of land that we know today as the New Boston Rail Trail. PLC’s 5th Annual Rose Mountain Rumble (RMR) hits the dirt roads of Lyndeborough and surrounding towns on Saturday, August 24th, 2019. Last year’s Rumble attracted 150 riders and we’re capping this year’s registration at 200. The RMR welcomes riders of every ability, offering a variety of loops from a 20-miler for more casual riders to a full 100K course to challenge the most hardened gravel grinder. The ride begins and ends at Lyndeborough Center Hall. Discounted “early bird” registration of $70 per rider is open through May 31st.
In December PLC was awarded a three-year, $30,000 operating grant from the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation (NHCF). Payable in three annual $10,000 installments, the grant will help cover core expenses like staff salaries, office rent, utilities, insurance, etc.. PLC had received operating support from NHCF in the past, but only on a single-year basis. In 2018 the Foundation’s Community Grants program announced a shift to multi-year operating grants, and PLC applied to the revamped program’s inaugural grant round.
