Townes

PLC is working with the Townes Family Trust to permanently conserve about four hundred-fifty acres of their land on South Hill in New Boston.  Ninety-six percent of the land ranks as a priority in PLC’s land conservation plan, and it interconnects with thousands of acres of existing protected land in the surrounding area.  Conserving the Townes lands has long been a top priority for both PLC and the New Boston Conservation Commission, which is helping cover costs on the project.  Our agreement with the Townes family gives us until September 30, 2026 to complete the land and easement transactions.

COMPLETED JUNE 2026 – PLC is working to purchase 141 acres along the Massachusetts border in Mason as a new PLC preserve.  Ninety percent of the forested property is identified as a priority in PLC’s land conservation plan, and it also ranks high in the state’s Wildlife Action Plan.  The land has excellent recreational potential with an existing trail that connects to the adjacent 3,000-acre Townsend State Forest in Massachusetts.  The land is owned by Judy and Jerry Anderson, who purchased the land over many years with the intention of someday placing it in permanent conservation.

COMLETED JUNE 2026 — PLC has signed a donation agreement with the owner of three forested parcels totaling one hundred and twenty-three acres in in the northwest corner of New Boston and adjacent areas in Weare and Francestown. Once protected, the property will link existing conservation properties around Dennison Pond to extensive protected areas to the east around the Great Meadow and south along Bunker Hill Road.  PLC will manage the land for watershed protection, wildlife habitat and public recreation. There is an existing network of trails on the property which will allow for immediate recreational opportunities.
