Saturday, September 12th — Established in 1989, Kuncanowet Town Forest in Dunbarton is a 1,000-acre protected expanse of forest and wetland and is about one and a half miles at its widest. The terrain is varied with some short inclines and the trails we will follow (about two miles in all) will pass ponds and streams and meander through mixed forests. The autumn woods are filled with interesting plants, and the cultural history is fascinating. We will visit the sites of several former mills (a saw mill and a shingle mill) and reflect upon the changes that have occurred in this part of New Hampshire. The walk is free, but registration is required. The outing is limited to twenty people. In the event of significant rain, the walk will be held on the following Saturday, 9/19.
