*Dragonflies and Butterflies are most active when it’s warm and sunny, so in the event of inclement weather the trip will be rescheduled.*

PLC member and naturalist Mike Thomas will lead an easy 2-hour walk looking for dragonflies and butterflies in a meadow and wetland. We will also sample dragonfly larvae and other aquatic insects in the pond. Participants will learn about their biology and behavior, and how to identify some common species. If you have ever wondered what these amazing insects look like up close, this is a great opportunity to find out!  Easy hike; children and families welcome.

What to Wear/Bring: We recommend that participants dress for ticks. Wear long pants which are preferably light in color (so that any ticks are visible). Bring water and insect repellent if you use it. Dress for the weather and wear appropriate footwear for wet conditions.

Be sure to bring your binoculars, field guides, and butterfly nets if you have them!

Where to Meet: From the junction of NH136 (Francestown Rd.) and Tucker Mill Rd. in New Boston, proceed North on Tucker Mill Rd. for 1.2 miles. Turn Left onto Saunders Hill Rd. Proceed 0.1 miles to the parking entrance on the Left to the Betsy Dodge Conservation Area.

Be Aware: The Piscataquog Land Conservancy (PLC) offers events to allow people to connect with our environment. Individuals participating are responsible for their own safety, and for knowing and respecting their own physical capabilities and limitations. Your event registration indicates that: you assume responsibility for yourself and any guests accompanying you, you agree to follow the instructions of the Trip Leader in order to minimize risk, you understand that the Trip Leader and/or any PLC staff present are not necessarily trained in wilderness rescue, first aid, or emergency medicine, and are present only to provide cohesion to the group.

Dog Policy: Except for service dogs, dogs are not allowed at PLC sponsored events. Some of our outings include environments or activities not suitable for dogs. We also strive to make our outings inclusive to all people. Many people – landowners, trip leaders, and participants – might be uncomfortable with dogs. There is also a concern for a dog-on-dog conflict. Thank you for understanding

COVID-19: Please monitor yourself for symptoms of COVID-19 prior to the event. If you or someone in your household becomes ill or have had a known exposure to COVID-19, please stay home and notify us that you will not be in attendance.

Before you register: We ask that you please notify us immediately if your plans to attend a PLC event change by emailing plc@plcnh.org or calling 603-487-3331. Our outings are planned and managed by dedicated volunteers and our attendance caps are often low to ensure a great experience for attendees. If you’re not able to make it, we’d appreciate the opportunity to open a space for someone else.
