Rose Mountain Winter Hike – Canceled

January 29, 2023 @ 9:00 am 1:30 pm

Winter hikes are a great way to enjoy the natural world from a fresh perspective – all while getting some sunlight and exercise! Join PLC trip leaders Mike Boyko and Ben Haubrich on a winter hike/snowshoe to the summit of Rose Mountain in Lyndeborough. The hike will be moderately strenuous, with a total distance of 4 1/4 miles and total elevation gain of about 800 feet.  The most strenuous climbing is at the beginning, as we start off gaining about 450’ in elevation over ¾ mi. of walking. If you like using hiking poles on steeper sections, bring them. After that, the hike is easier walking over mostly rolling terrain or gradual downhills.

Difficulty Level:  Moderately Strenuous with stretches of steep elevation gains and potentially dangerous winter trail conditions. This is a challenging hike and all participants must be prepared for the physical challenges of hiking in low temps, changeable weather and icy/snowy trail conditions – both for your own safety and the safety of the group. NH Fish & Game has gear lists and resources available for safe hiking in New Hampshire.

Mileage: 4.25 miles

Elevation: About 800 feet

Duration: About 4 hours at a moderate pace

What to Wear/Bring:

  • Dress for the weather
  • A pack with extra layer, extra gloves or mittens
  • Water bottle or thermos and a snack
  • Snowshoes.
  • Sturdy boots and “micro-spikes” or other traction for icy conditions.
  • If you own spikes bring them along with your snowshoes so you have the choice.

Cost: This event is free to attend. However – there is a registration cap, so if you register and your plans change please notify us immediately so that we can open up a spot for others.
