Full Moon Owl Prowl

November 9, 2022 @ 5:00 pm 7:00 pm

Join PLC’s Dan Ewald and Jill Ketchen at Tuthill Woodland’s Preserve in New Boston just after sunset to look and listen for whooooooooo might be around. We’ll let our eyes adjust while we talk about resident NH owls, behaviors, and habitats. Then we’ll take a short (and quiet) walk with our eyes and ears open to see if we can hear or spot some owls. We’ll bring some different types of calls and attempt to call them to us as well. Please note, Jill and Dan are not wildlife experts – they are enthusiasts! Feel free to bring a favorite owl fact, calling tip, or sighting story to share.

Bring: warm layers, good shoes, insect repellent and patience.

Don’t bring: dogs, bright lights, tootsie roll pops.

We’re hoping the full moon will be bright enough to walk safely, but if you choose to bring a flashlight please choose one with a red-light setting or cover it with a piece of red fabric to help everyone preserve their night-vision. In daylight, this is an easy/moderate hike, but please do be prepared for heightened awareness in the dark.

Be Aware: The Piscataquog Land Conservancy (PLC) offers events to allow people to connect with our environment. Individuals participating are responsible for their own safety, and for knowing and respecting their own physical capabilities and limitations. Your event registration indicates that: you assume responsibility for yourself and any guests accompanying you, you agree to follow the instructions of the Trip Leader in order to minimize risk, you understand that the Trip Leader and/or any PLC staff present are not necessarily trained in wilderness rescue, first aid, or emergency medicine, and are present only to provide cohesion to the group.

Dog Policy: Except for service dogs, dogs are not allowed at PLC sponsored events. Some of our outings include environments or activities not suitable for dogs. We also strive to make our outings inclusive to all people. Many people – landowners, trip leaders, and participants – might be uncomfortable with dogs. There is also a concern for a dog-on-dog conflict. Thank you for understanding

COVID-19: Please monitor yourself for symptoms of COVID-19 prior to the event. If you or someone in your household becomes ill or have had a known exposure to COVID-19, please stay home and notify us that you will not be in attendance.

Before you register: We ask that you please notify us immediately if your plans to attend a PLC event change by emailing plc@plcnh.org or calling 603-487-3331. Our outings are planned and managed by dedicated volunteers and agency professionals, and our attendance caps are often low to ensure a great experience for attendees. If you’re not able to make it, we’d appreciate the opportunity to open a space for someone else.
