Anonymous Donor Launches Outreach Fund

In August PLC received an unexpected and unbelievably generous donation of $100,000 from an anonymous donor with deep ties to the organization.  They had previously earmarked a parcel of land in their estate which had minimal conservation value but could be sold to raise funds for PLC.  When an opportunity arose to sell the land this summer, they decided that rather than making PLC wait they would turn their property into seed funding to grow the group’s public outreach efforts, especially to younger generations.  The newly established Community Outreach & Engagement Fund has already allowed PLC to take our development and outreach staff position full-time.

The donor says that “making the gift now allows PLC to leverage the funds in a way that has the long-term impact we are looking for in a legacy gift, and we get to enjoy watching how it benefits land conservation during our lifetime.  We feel so lucky to be in this position, and it is a joy to be able to invest in PLC’s future.”

The new Community Outreach & Engagement Fund rounds out a trio of special funds first conceived during PLC’s 50th anniversary year to support our long-term organizational impact and sustainability.  The other two are the Land Opportunity Fund and the Stewardship Capacity Fund.   The former is a pool of internal working capital for high priority land conservation projects that require fast action; the latter helps PLC sustain its full-time stewardship staff position, which is ever more critical as PLC continues to add conservation properties.  All three of the funds are options for PLC supporters who want to invest in PLC’s future during their lifetime.
