In recognition of outstanding volunteer contributions to Piscataquog Land Conservancy, Carrie Finke of Goffstown has been named PLC’s 2021 Volunteer of the Year. The announcement was made at PLC’s 51st Annual Meeting on October 23.

Carrie and her husband Tim happened upon PLC’s display at the 2015 Goffstown Old Home Day, where they met PLC Land Protection Specialist Tom Jones and David Nieman of the Goffstown Conservation Commission. The ensuing conversation inspired the Finkes, who had been considering donating a conservation easement for a while, to move forward with conserving their 59 acres on Montelona Road in northeast Goffstown.  They followed in the footsteps of Carrie’s parents George and Kristi Fullerton, who had donated an easement on their land a few years earlier.

Fortunately for PLC the relationship with Carrie did not end with closing the easement.  Carrie has volunteered as a member of PLC’s Stewardship Committee ever since, improving property access and trail systems (particularly at the Blackbriar Woods and Black Brook Preserves), raising awareness of our conservation efforts with interest pieces in our newsletter, and even helping us out of a sticky trail stewardship situation by transporting a workhorse to Rose Mountain in Lyndeborough.

“Carrie is the perfect person for this award” said PLC’s Executive Director Chris Wells. “She’s that person who is always ready and willing to jump in and help on land stewardship and trail projects.  She has a tractor, and she likes to use it!”

Stewardship Committee Chair Mike Boyko says “Carrie is an extremely hard worker and is very dependable.  She’s a strong asset to PLC and the Stewardship Committee.”

Thank you, Carrie and congratulations!
