The 6th Annual Rose Mountain Rumble was a welcome occasion to enjoy the beauty of late summer in New England via the scenic roads of Lyndeborough and surrounding towns. The event kicked off at the Historic Town Hall and from there the 150 riders set out on one of the four courses, varying in length and difficulty level.

We caught up with some Rumblers to hear about their ride. Lucas and Chris from Merrimack, NH, Devi from Portland, ME and Bryce from New Boston, NH were all first-time riders and most excited about the scenery on the routes.

“There are a few spots on the course where you ride up and over the crest of a hill, and then there is a beautiful view of the farmland and forests,” said Lucas. “The types of places that you see and think ‘Wow, I want to live here.’ It’s really a unique ride.”

“The RMR reminds me of the grassroots events that were popular when gravel was just getting big,’ said Devi. “As gravel has become more popular the events have gotten bigger. It’s cool to have a smaller event like this to enjoy. I loved riding by some of the bogs and wetlands. There are a few nice flat stretches where you get to cruise and really enjoy the scenery after putting in the work on the climbs.”

The work on the climbs happened to be Dave Walton’s favorite part. “I love Bible Hill Road. It’s work. It’s rugged. It’s painful. I was suffering, but that’s why I came here today. There’s nothing like that feeling when you work through it and make it to the top of those hills.”

Jason Gonzales from Danvers, Massachusetts was one of the only riders to hit the road on a fat-tire bike. “It was awesome,” said Jason. “I just floated over some of the bumpy patches. It was a bit rough on the climbs because my bike weighs almost 35 pounds, but it was absolutely the best ride I have been to, and I will absolutely be back next year.”

Marcy Stanton of Lyndeborough, NH enjoyed the 20-mile course with her friend Angela Hall of Nashua, NH. “The Rose Mountain Rumble is fun, beautiful, well-organized, and has great food,” said Stanton. “Beyond that, I like knowing the funds raised help Piscataquog Land Conservancy conserve land in New Hampshire.”
